Public Safety
Public Safety can mean a lot of things. To me, public safety means better lighting for our streets, better traffic conditions for our schools, stronger community protection through Neighborhood Watches & supporting programs, and having a police force that we can trust. Losing our Chief Pridgin, our first Black chief of police, because of internal politics only to have him released at no fault was a blow to our community trust. While we lost him, one officer who played a part in our recent $5 million in police misconduct payouts for knowingly beating a mentally disabled man and losing body cam & taser data is still on our roster. This does not build community trust with the police nor does it make us safer. Our community deserves transparency and accountability.
