Housing Stability
Housing stability in San Leandro must be a priority. Eight of our twelve schools are Title I schools. Seventy percent of our SLUSD families are low-income families. We see the homeless and unhoused population in the streets of the Marina and throughout the city, but did you know that we have over a dozen unhoused families attending our schools? Our single-family housing stock is 44% renter occupied and that number is projected to get even higher if we do not move towards mitigation. On top of that, we have seen some of our most vulnerable residents in some mobile home parks have their rents increased by over 20%, and landlords use loopholes to passthrough repair costs to these residents. If we want a strong San Leandro community, then we must ensure that families can grow strong roots here and that begins with affordable housing for our community.
